The colours of the keyboard keys are based on the weights in a neural network. This particular network has been trained to predict the colours of a certain pixel based on its coordinates. In this sense, it encodes an image, which has now become unrecognisable.
Artificial neural networks
Artificial neural networks are constructs used in algorithms, which are modelled on the structure of the brain. The model contains layers of neurons and the connections between them. The strength of a connection between two neurons is given by a number, a “weight”. The weights in a neural network form an encoding. Concepts are spread across the connections. Similarly, in our lives, we can see the experiences we have as impressions on our bodies and brains that leave behind physical, chemical traces.
